About IFMA

What is IFMA?
Established in 1980, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is a not-for-profit, incorporated association dedicated to serving the facility management profession.

Vision:
"To universally represent facility management as a profession."
This relates to how and why IFMA was formed -to represent the various people who perform facility management functions as a group with common knowledge, abilities and interests. Definitions of the key words in the vision provide a deeper understanding of its direction.

Universally -in every instance; in every part or place.
Represent -to describe state or set forth; to be a sign or symbol for; to speak and act for.
Profession -a vocation or occupation requiring advanced education and training, and involving intellectual skills; the body of persons in any such calling or occupation.

Mission:
"To lead and sustain progress of facility management profession."
This provides clear direction on how IFMA will serve the facility management profession -by leading and sustaining its progress. Again, definitions of the key words in the mission provide a deeper understanding of its direction.

Lead -to show the way to, or direct the course of, by going before or along with; conduct; guide. To be the head, first and foremost of.
Sustain -to provide for the support of; to provide sustenance or nourishment for. To keep in existence; keep up; maintain or prolong.
Progress -Forward course; development. Advance toward perfection, or to a higher or better state; improvement.


IFMA Code Of Ethics:

1. IFMA members shall treat each other with respect when dealing with matters which could affect their professional reputations. All members shall recognize that the profession will be judged by the conduct of individual members.

2. IFMA members shall maintain the highest professional standards and ethical behavior in their Associations relationships. This includes but is not limited to the use of mail lists, membership information and membership resources, or any calls, contacts or working relationships outside of IFMA.

3. IFMA members shall use IFMA memberships as a means of professional development for themselves and not personal aggrandizement.

4. IFMA members shall be responsible for providing educational and professional development information to the membership.

5. IFMA members shall not buy or sell products or services at IFMA functions, except at trade shows or displays established for that purpose.

6. IFMA member shall not discriminate because of race, sex, creed, age, disability, or nation origin as it relates to their Association relationships.

7. IFMA members shall abide by the Constitution and By-laws of the Association and shall support the objectives of its strategic plan and the interests of the Association stake holders (members' business entity and leadership, government regulatory agencies and IFMA staff).

8. IFMA members are responsible to report the actions of individuals or companies, which are considered contrary to the Code of Ethics, to IFMA. These actions may include but are not limited to cases of professional malfeasance, discrimination or incompetence.
